When I turn to the left or right and come back it caughts then lets go till I turn it back then it does it. Don't know what the problem is

This problem can probably be put down to one word......wear!
Have an assistant turn the steering wheel back and forth and check the whole system very closely from the cross-shaft in the steering box to the outer ball joints. If you have the pedestal type in front of the radiator (high drag link) or the later type (low drag link) the operation is very similar. The only play that should be in the system ideally is that to activate the spool on the steering cylinder. If I understand you correctly you are getting initial movement and then it disappears until you turn the wheel again. If you observe the operation you will see the valve actuated, then movement and then the spool will return to neutral. You will need to see where this movement is and take steps to rectify it.
Places to check in particular areupper and lower arms, adjustable barrel, cylinder rod attachment to casting, must be negligible up and down and axial play. Check the main vertical steering shaft particularly play at the bottom. Once the areas of play are found you can determine how to go about rectification. Come back if you need more help.
