Help Carb problem???

I had posted awhile back on this forum about a 44 carb that I was having some problems with. Finally got back to it this weekend. Carb was rebuilt to the kit settings (idle jet out 1 1/2 turns, main jet out 1 1/2 turns) and cleaned to the best of my ability.

Problem is now, the tractor will fire but I can only get it to run for a minute or two and that is only with the choke about 3/4 closed and the throttle barley open (butterfly about half way) As soon as I open the choke or move the throttle at all it dies.

Full choke it will start back up again, but it keeps doing the same thing.

While I had it running, I was able to adjust the idle jet open and closed, no help. Same with the main jet.

To me it seems that it still isn't sucking fuel, but there is plenty of suction at the carb. It will nearly pull your hand in if you block off the opening. Plugs seem dry. Plenty of fuel flow at the carb as well. Its just not getting fuel.

What do I do now?

You probably are'nt gonna wanna hear this, but
appears to me that there is still blockage somewhere
in the carb. A good soak in solvent overnight might
do the trick. Otherwise, you're spittin in the wind
my friend.

Since it appears to run lean, you may have an air leak around the carb metering section(thottle shaft, manifold connect flange, cylinder head to maifold connection, or rust holes or cracks in the manifold itself).

Also check your ignition system to make sure have a good spark. Weak sparks can ignite a richer mixture.

I heartily agree with dg. tear down that carb and
soak it overnite in a specified cleaning solution

I should also have mentioned that the same can
apply to the sed. bowl assy. as the passages can
build up with "plaque" same as the carb. Chuck

Did you check the inlet screen prior to the needle valve? Most MS carbs had this and they were very often overlooked. It will cause the problem you are talking about. A misinstalled needle valve will do the same thing. Make sure the top of the float is level (1/4") with the mating surface when turned over. If not, bend the tab on the float til it is.

Its definitely not a fuel delivery problem. I pulled the plug out of the bottom of the carb and the gas stream running out of the carb was the same size as the hole. I also pulled out the main needle and gas was running out of there as well.
