MF 202 Quadramatic Control

Hi, so I have my 202 starting and running fairly well, front loader working fine. In the back I have a drag box with rippers. Been reading the ops manual and have a basic understanding of how the draft and hydralever work, and they do rotate the two upper link arms, not all that much but I can raise the drag box off the ground. However, if I have this right, the two levers just ahead of the seat, the Double Spool Valves I think, control the two cylinders on the drag box. I'm not getting anything when I move them, am I doing something wrong? Also, I need to move those upper link arms enough to clear the ROPS mounts so I can replace a broken clevis pin, they are not moving near far enough up to do that now, perhaps I have to unbolt the offending arm from the tractor?

Oh, and I have a blown exhaust gasket. Is it much more complicated than getting the 8 rusty nuts off and sliding the plot out enough to get a new gasket in place? Gas motor, 1959.

Thanks, Paul

As regards the exhaust manifold gasket, you pretty much got it. I did mine a couple weeks ago and it didn't give me too much grief.

I'm not an expert on the 3 point hydraulics but I do know that it all runs off a pump which is in line with the PTO drive shaft. Sounds like you may have a pump problem. Have you checked the fluid in your trans/rear end? That is the fluid that is pumped around and used to power the 3 point lift and the other spool valves you refer to. I'm sure someone here will have the answer.

Thanks for the gasket advice, I'm getting tired of listening to that leak, and I haven't even driven it yet! Tried cracking a couple of the nuts loose, they are stuck. Going to take some good penetrating oil to get them off without busting the studs.

I went out to double check the trans fluid, and noticed a hose running from the spool valves to the area of the front loader levers, and sure enough bigger than day there's a push/pull knob there. Fired it up, pulled the knob out and that got the back cylinders working. They must operate off the same fluid as the front loader I guess.

Yes, they likely do. You didn't mention having a front end loader. I'm guessing it is the Davis loader (mine is a 102) if it has the push pull knob. Mine runs a backhoe in the out position. I recently upgraded the control valve as mine was leaking badly when I tilted the bucket then a couple weekends ago I installed hydrostatic power steering and removed all the non working power assist stuff. This also runs off the front mounted pump. It is much more enjoyable to use now!

The reason I replaced my manifold gasket was because it had a slight miss and the gasket seems to have helped with that. I guess I was lucky with mine in that the bolts weren't seized up at all.
