Try again - MF135UK - Am I doing this correctly? Clutch fing

Hello. Please have a quick look at the attached photo. I purchased a new clutch assembly from Yesterdays Tractors. Am I adjusting the clutch fingers correctly? I made the adjustment tool (1" depth) shown in my manual. The reason I'm concerned is I had to screw in the bolts quite a bit to get the correct 1" adjustment. (refer to photo: The finger I'm adjusting is set to 1" depth, the other fingers are as they came from the factory.) Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello Brian,
Yes you are doing it sort of correctly! I have to say that I would not be happy to do it that way. my attached photo shows the correct MF tool for adjusting a 12 inch clutch. The tool for the 11 inch is slightly smaller. The correct datum to work from is the shoulder on the flywheel with or without the packing shims. My concern is that in using the machined face of the cover is that a non-gen manufacturer may work to slightly different dimensions to the original. Having said that, it is much more important that the screw heads are set the same so your gauge will be OK. However I would prefer to see the screws in just proud of the bottom of the release fingers. If the unit wears then the screws are that much nearer to making contact with the PTO plate rivets. I would suggest that you re-work part of your gauge slightly so that the slightly 'higher' position can be set. Have you fitted a new main plate? If not, a worn plate will allow the fingers to come out further. There is sufficient adjustment in the release bearing adjustment to accommodate the finger position. Likewise the 3 PTO adjusters should be checked and set to nominally 090" but this can be reduced to 060" if necessary to achieve the correct second stage position on the pedal and sufficient clear travel below the pedal after the PTO has stopped turning.

Thank you for the reply. From the photo you show the tool looks just like a piece of flatbar. Is it something you can make easily?

Hi. I adjusted the fingers to 1 1/8" depth instead of the 1" my manual says. There is approx 2-3 threads showing on the back of the fingers. Does this look better? Thanks.

Hello Brian,
Yes, that looks much better. The release fingers are roughly level, there is plenty of room for them to operate inwards and move outwards as the plates wear. Essentially the tool is a piece of flat bar with two rods.
