B. hog drops in 3 seconds flat

...after I shut it off. Tractor is a `56 to35. It does fine lifting & lowering it & my back blade, maybe a little bit of bouncing but it also has a Wagner FEL on it. Not sure if that adds to the bouncing or not. Now in my readings, I understand that I need to take the inspection cover off on the right side(dipstick) & look in there to see where leaks or turbulent oil is churning....& W/O hands being in there! Just wondered if from just this info, any could diagnose where the problem is? Should also say that like I said, it`ll lift the B hog & B blade but NOT big round bales & thats in my future because we own a couple cows. Any advice is greatly appreciated & Thanks in advance!

Hello Gilbert,
Don't take the side cover off without draining the oil to the level of the bottom bolt! Look inside and upwards. The most likely place for the oil to leak from is the cylinder under the hydraulic cover. Lift the 3-pt and then shut off the engine. Any movement of oil is likely to be your leak.

How heavy are the big round you want to lift? A TO-35 is a bit small for bales over~ 1000 pounds. Your lift cylinder is most likely leaking if it drops your hog that quickly.

First off, THank you gentlemen for your replies!!!
I "may" have found the problem.I`m gonna try to post the pix.Started by fireing up the aircompresser to blow the dust off before opening ANYthing up...after starting w/the dipstick(inspection hole) I got to thinking, top down...lifted seat, blew it off....& after blowing it off, found a weld & a crack in it,under the seat. I hope my pix come though good!
I`ll load the pix & see what you`all think. Thank you all for the guidance!!!

Hello Gilbert,
Ouch!!!!!
Looks like you have a bit more than a cylinder leak!!! The cylinder may be cracked as well. With the possible movement in the hyd cover the cylinder has probably moved as well, created a gap and allowed the O ring to blow. This would certainly explain the sudden fall of your bush hog. Have you had the tractor long?

David & Jerry, Thank you for your replies!!!
I`ve owned the tractor about 10 years now. The first couple 3 years, I was just hog`n & blading, no cows yet so no bales. Now prob`ly the 7 yrs. back, when cows & bales came along, I had noticed a crack in the top. 1 evening, a new friend came over I just happen to show it to him & he said "I weld". He told me he`d weld`er up but that I needed different rods, I "think" he said it was nickel rods needed but don`t quote me...lol.
Now to the bales, Yes Jerry, there BIG round bales that I`ve asked our hay person to make smaller. The past 2 years they`ve been 5 1/2 to 6 ft. tall & I thought that was darned sure put`n Fergie to the test! BTW, we`ve got a new baler-guy this year, 4 1/2 ft. rounds out in the field that I`m perty sure aren`t wrapped near as tight as the "other" ol` boys. Think this is what REcracked it? Can it be rewelded? TY again for your looking & replying. Gonna try to load the other pic I took, I think I had a better angle of the crack.....Thanx again!
