Grain Combine (Massey Ferguson 550)

Hello
I have a MF 550 combine that is having hydraulic problems. It does not want to raise the header when it gets hot. It works fine for the first 30 to 45 mins. of running in the field. Although it does leak really slow down during the first rounds of a field but you can still bump the button up and it comes up. After about 45 mins it leaks down and when you go to raise it up, it will not.
Has anyone ever came across this problem before, anyone work on these and knows what is causing this :?: We nearly know it is not the pump because the hydraulics would not work at all and they do except for raising the header after it warms up but it will probably be the next step. We've replaced both magnetic cylinoids and in line filter.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :!:

Thanks in advance for the Replys

it sounds like your hydraulic pump is going out we had a 750 that was doing the same thing after we changed the pump it worked fine

Ok thanks, we ordered the pump last week so hopefully it will be here Wednesday... a thousand bucks :?
How much u pay for yours?

Excluding the hydrostat transmission, if so equipt,All hydraulic functions run from the same pump.If you have a bad pump, the steering would also get weak as it warms up. The head settling down sounds like a bad plastic poppet in the electric valve. It is under the allen plug in the electric valve

Make sure you do not have the unloading auger valve sticking or reel up and down sticking causing the relief valve to pop off heating the oil causing your pump failure or plastic poppet to melt. When you start combine raise reel make it go against pressure you will hear it pressure make sure that noise goes away after releasing lever same with auger.

Thanks, that was the first problem we had, they were melted in there after replacing them we all thought, YES that's it we fixed it, but no it continued to leak down and not raise.

I highly suspect you have junk floating around in you electric valve.Once again, is the steering working ok, if so, take the electric valve to a MF mechanic and have it cleaned. There are several tiny orfices in this valve and it would be next to impossible to explan how to get to them from here. They also should have a tool to reseat the plastic poppet seat.

Well the steering does have a pretty loud racket when you get to a certain point in turning it from left to right. The steering is steerable when the header won't raise though that's what were keying on as its not the pump. We replaced both of the poppets too. Is this the electric valve your referring to? (pic. Below) the red outline is one of the poppets.

Here is the entire Hydraulic System

I am refering to the main check valve, item #80, the only plastic peace in this body,I think! and the inner point of it has to be almost perfect. Item 68 & 69 are the relief valve a spring for this body, might add a washer to see weather that helps.Ther normally is a Pioneer coupling attached to the lower end of the right hand table lift cylinder, Get a guage and plug it in to see what you have for hyd preasure, should be around 1900lbs.The reel lift should be around 2000lbs
