Toy collecting looks like fun

Iv been a member of this forum for a wile now.iv bought and slowly went over a Ford 9n.lots of people have helped me get it running right.in a week or two the paint will be done and the 3 year project will be completed!

Every so often I scroll down and check out this page.you guys are having too much fun!!toy collecting seems like a great hobby to kill winter blues.seeing before and after pics of toys and displays is neat.

I may step into toy collecting.i walk past them at flea market all time.im not a ebay user so I know I'll be limited as to what I find. I'm not made of $ ( drywall Carpenter).but some items are in my price range.ill never be able to afford the real tractors I would like.so toys is the next best thing.

My first toy will be a Ford 9n.if anyone has an extra one in there collection they would part with,I would be interested.my email is open.

I have lots of questions but this post is already getting too long lol.i hope to chat with you all some time.
Thanks,Tom Riddle

It is easy to get hooked on toys. Right now I've got around 350 1/16 scale and over 600 1/64 scale but I sell at some of the local shows too, so its not all for me. I would recomend subscribing to Toy Farmer magazine as that is a good source of information. They have most of the toy shows advertised in there as well as the bigger auctions. There are buys on eBay now and then but I find just as much at shows and auctions. It is kind of crazy how much stuff is out there. See if you can get a hold of a copy of Dicks Farm Toy Price Guide and you will see what I mean.

Toy collecting is a lot of fun. it's more fun to build your own or customize the toys. I have a FB page, a website and an Ebay store. I collect build, customize, restore and part out toys. Like most collectors. I have a wish list a mile long I wish Ertl or SpecCast would make.

I broke the first Cardinal Rule of collecting. The best rule is,collect what you like. I tried to get too many in a series, too many of the so called collector editions, things like that, and the cost got to where it started to make me sick. There's so much new stuff coming out all the time that you'll never be able to keep up. So if you see it,you like it and you can afford it,grab it. if you think the only reason you're buying it is to impress somebody else, leave it lay.

I'm getting back to it a little more when I come across something that truly impresses me,but I'm done buying for any other reason than I just plain like it and it impresses me.

Thanks for the helpful thoughts guys.i will take all the advice I can get.

I won't be collecting hundreds of toys for sure.peddle tractors are way outta my league.

I just want a small shelf full of tractor models I grew up with working at a dairy on weekends and stacking staw in summers.

Just so I can look up on my shelf and remember old times as a young man.working hard for next to nothing.and loved every minute of it.times were so simple as a kid.i don't ever want to grow up !!

My favorite farm chore growing up was corn picking time. I looked for what I could find with ear corn, couldn't find much other than pickers so I decided to make these things. I made the drive thru crib so it disassembles thinking SWMBO wouldn't want it out all the time but after probably 5 years she hasn't complained, her dad had a drive through crib like this. I wish Specast or Ertl would make a precision MM Vista.

Gtractorfan,

What a great display!!!

On this gloomy rainy day, that put a much needed smile on my face.

Here in MD we have alot of .round wire corn cribs just like the stor- more you have.

If I do a display ,it would be a bank barn with a few wooden wagons of small bales.a elevator, a Farmall c on a wagon and a Oliver 77 on another wagon pulling them into barn .

You guys amaze me with your talent and details!!

Some are shishkabob sticks, I had some bundled up and sawed them on the band saw, but mostly I made a bunch of small sticks on the table saw and bundled them and also sawed them in pieces on the bandsaw. Spray painted the stacks, let dry mix them up and paint some more. There aren't as many as it looks, in the center of the round crib I cut round layers styrafoam blocks just small enough to have around a half inch of "ears" around that.

did you make the elevators also ,i have an original tru-scale but would not be that long.i am trying to find liver tractor mounted picker setup like my dad had. i like your setup

Yes, I made the elevators from discarded vertical drapery blind headers (aluminum) made to represent 60' in 1/16th scale.

Flea markets and auctions are great places to find them! I don't have too many, but all the ones I have were either at farm auctions given to me as a gift...

They sure aren't as expensive as the real ones - plus, you won't have to worry about the tires going bad!!! ha

I went the other way and started collecting the real thing instead. Nobody's reproducing those.
