JD 5020 Restore ?

I picked up a JD 5020 this weekend that is a little beat up, but complete. I am getting started into restoring 1/16 tractors. My question is about the front tires. I have done some IH 856"s where the front tires are riveted on, but the JD 5020 tires are not riveted on. How do you guys reattach the front tires after grinding the mushroomed head off the front axle?
Thank You,
James

I have not ground off the knobs yet, but it seems they have to be in order to get the wheels off. The tractor need to be repainted.
I had not thought about the push on axle caps. Thank You.

Don't grind them totally down. Grind them just enough so you can work the wheels off. Then do your painting and then work the wheels back on. I don't care for the looks of those press on caps. On rear axles I like to fit a thin peice of brass tubing cut to length that just fits over the axle and secure it to the axle with a dab of glue. It looks like a real axle with the wheel clamped to it then.

Ya,I'd be soaking them in some real hot soapy water to get them as soft and slippery as I could before I tried to work them off.

I am going to try to post a picture.

No need to remove the wheels. I'd remove the tires though.Soak in hot water, remove the tires and the use masking tape or aluminum foil over the plastic wheels. Paint..
