How much noise is too much? 1 and 3 sound normal and 2 and 4 sound a little louder. This tractor is not going to see much hard work, should this be a concern? Or should the GL-140 take care of most noise? Does not seem to have any trouble moving, under power still goes along like normal (not very fast :-)) and does not seem to be drasgging at all. I just wonder if I should go ahead and paint or not.

Wind, I have wondered the same thing. My 35 B has some whines, groans and sometimes a little vibration but I don't know how quite and smooth these were when brand new. I have GL140 in mine and it helped some but it's still not what we are used to nowdays and maybe never was. Are we being too critical of these straight cut gears and 1930's technology? I don't know. I use mine just for shows and parades so I don't really worry about. It does what it's suppose to do.

Since it had been 15 years or more since I had listened to it from the drivers seat, I could not really remember just how it sounded. From what you and Sam are saying, nothing to be concerned about. I would like to put it on plow again someday, but need to get a plow and the time to get it back to snuff. Probably about another 15 years!

I am going to change to the GL-140 since this tractor will not see winter duty though. Unless I can figure out how to build a manual lift rear mount blade.

Thanks for the input guys!

My 46 B does make more noise in high range than in low range. I have been completely through it top to bottom. I know it is ok I think it is just the old style of gears.
