John Deere 5105 Steering Spindle

I have a JD 5105 2wd with adjustable front axle. Just broke the FOURTH spindle. This tractor has a 512 front loader mounted on it which was installed by the local JD dealer. Has anyone had or know of any similar issues with these spindles? At 400 dollars aftermarket, 700+ dollars from JD this is getting ridiculous fast.

I wonder if a 4wd front end would fit under there easy if you could find one in a junk yard ?

Too much work and not worth the effort. I am just trying to see if anyone has experienced or heard of this problem. 4 spindles in two and a half years is crazy.

Either do as Mike mentioned or stop overloading it, just that simple. Kinda of like touching an electric fence, if you didn't learn the first time, just keep touching it. :)

You just made an incorrect assumption. The loader is not being overloaded or abused All I asked is if anyone who knew of a similar issue. Sarcasm is why people avoid forums. Move along troll.

On the other hand, we all know guys who could break an anvil with a rubber mallet!

I worked in a JD dealership starting just after the 5000 series were introduced. To my recollection I only remember a couple of
occasions of spindle breakage. The one tractor had a front mounted forklift installed and I feel it was an operator issue as the
same operation had 3 or 4 set up like this and only once did the spindle fail. The other incident (on the same farm) took place
when two tractors met each other coming around the corner of a barn. One went left, the other went right...... snapped two
spindles instantly. That was most certainly operator caused.
So it seems I don't have any advice. Does it occur on the same side every time?

I don't think it wouldn't be practical to put a MFWD on your 2wd tractor. As I recall, your 5105 tractor is an India made model and MFWD wasn't even offered at the time your tractor was made. Doubt the MFWD axle would go on the front support. Don't think the drivetrain has MFWD capability either.

I have a 5105 with the 4x4. I don't know how the 2 wd front end bolts to the frame ? The front end would handle the load better and you would not have to bother hooking it up as I bet that would be too involved.

Although JD 5105 was assembled in Augusta,Ga & was offered with option of MFWD I wouldn't recommend altering a 2WD version to MFWD style.

Hanging some weight on the 3-point hitch will take some of the load off the front axle. Then too, avoiding hitting bumps at too high of speed will
reduce the amount of punishment the front axle takes too.

I agree heavy counter weight behind rear tractor tires greatly reduces stress on frt axle & wheels/tires when utilizing FEL
