John Deere H crankshaft camshaft horizontal alignment

I replaced the camshaft gear on my 1946 H because it didn't align horizontally with the crankshaft gear. The replacement lines up a little better, but not great. How do you gets these gears to line up? Thank you. See image.

No adjustment that I know of. The crankshaft gear is wider than the camshaft gear. If your crankshaft end play is in spec, the LH camshaft bearing is OK and the camshaft is pulled into the bearing all the way to the shoulder you're good to go.

The crankshaft gear and the cam gear should be lined up by those dots. Then the cam gear and gov. shaft gear will have marks to align also. Perhaps Dan Price will chime in here

As Mike(NEOhio) indicated, there is no axial (horizontal direction) adjustment to the location of the camshaft and cam gear. The cam gear will wedge itself onto the tapered splines of the cam (assuming those tapered splines are all OK) and into the proper location on the cam, and the left cam bearing locates the camshaft and gear along with the belt pulley/clutch assembly with respect to the main case. No shimming or locating required. And as Mike also stated, the cam gear is narrower than the crank gear so there will be a portion of the crank gear that isn't used. Actually, it looks about right. If you get an inspection mirror in there, you'll probably see the cam gear is entirely on the crank gear and there is probably some of the wider crank gear exposed on the other side, also - assuming your crankshaft end play is correct (0.005" to 0.010").

The other side of the gears are lined up pretty well as you said. The cams and followers are lined up also, so I guess I'm good. Thanks for the fast response.
