JD400 industrial hydraulics brakes not working

Hi all
All new fluid and filters, loader working fine, 3 point good, but hydraulic brakes not working at all. I can pump them all day long but no firming up.
On top of the brake system is a removable plug that we can add fluid to but i cant find a socket to fit, there isnt enought bite and no room to put on. ?
What other parts on the brake system could we check ? We do have a manual to see brake system, etc
thanks in advance for any help, advise

The plug on top of the axel is the bleeder for your brakes and take a very small wrench or use a vice grip. The brakes sometimes get air in them and you put a small hose on the end of the bleeder and put the other end either into the fill hole of the rockshaft or into a bucket to see what's coming out of the line and pump the brakes. Just like bleeding a car, close the valve mid stream of pumping and the peddles should be firm. If not, then you need to look at the brake valves for repair. They are pretty simple to rebuild.

i attempted to take off brake house to take apart on bench, clean ispect, etc, bolts are too long with loader frame on, ouch, wouldnt be so bad but I will have to replace gasket now,

will i have to lower loader frame off rear axle now to get that bolt out. ? dang the luck

Thanks in advance

I'm not quite sure how your rear loader support arms are bolted to the rear end but hopefully you would have enough give in the support arm when the bolts are removed to get better access to the bleeder and brake valve. You may have to remove the bolts on both sides if that is not enough.
