this massage is for TXJIM.
I have a JD 346 wire baler that twists the wire and the wire will not slip out: the hooks have very little ware and it has been working great I have to unwrap it a little bit from the hook shaft for it to release. have you ever seen this?
thanks![/i]

Yes I've witnessed wire wrap around twister shaft after tying cycle many times since '65. Ditto what Shaun stated about pouring oil on wire in the boxes. IMHO wire manufactures don't apply as much oil as they did in the 60's-80's.

Check twister shaft to be sure it doesn't have a groove worn in it. If shaft has a groove it can be rotated 180°. When setting twister hook, point of hook should set directly under bolt that wire gripper pivots on. I've backed twister hook up from the bolt 1-2 teeth on twister drive gear to help twisted wire pull off shaft & out of hook.

Yes some oil in the wire roll and look at the twister shafts, they get grooves worn into them and those grooves will grip the wire just enough to hold it from slipping off ..I have removed them and put them in a Lathe to true them up..

We used to go get loads of wire tired squares up in indiana to sell to horse farms down here in ky. Man those bales were heavy and hard on the fingers. I dont seem them much anymore.

We ran a 346 wire tie years ago...the wire got pricey and the plastic twine got better..

Shaun, I added oil to the wire roll and that took care of the problem: it is working great now. Thanks to all you gentlemen, hope I have the opportunity to help you sometime: have a great day!
