I need to remove the dashboard on my'69 4020 tractor. It has the Synchro-Range transmission.
How do I remove the plastic knobs off of the levers?

They pull off but not easily.
Grip them with channel locks
and pull while rocking them
back and forth.

I close up a crescent wrench on the lever and tap on the wrench with a hammer,,watch out it don't hit you in the face,,and they go back on tight..

I used two wrenches , one on each side grab with both hands and pull . Be carefull that you dont fall off the tractor when they come loose .

Sounds like they must be taper-press fit. That's why when they release it's all at once. When put back together a taper press fit will work just as well as at the factory....but it's necessary to whack them back on with proper pressure...a good hard whack. If you're unsure & glue it you may never get them off again.

As it turned out,the knobs would not budge, even using a 5 pound dead blow hammer and a Crescent wrench behind the knobs. A harder blow would have broken the old plastic knobs.
I removed the levers from the pivot bolt/spacers and their rods. It was much easier to do with no chance of breaking the knobs.
