Diesel crankcase is vented through a steel tube to the cranking engine oil bath air cleaner, which also serves as crankcase ventilation filter.

(quoted from post at 07:29:31 08/02/18) Can anyone tell me does the big engine on the 70 diesel vent through the pony motor?

The two cylinder diesels with starting engines operate with a crankcase below atmospheric pressure . Due to thier being a passage drilled through the block and head extends into the intake port . Atmospheric air is pushed through the starting engine air filter into the crankcase . Crankcase fumes are pushed into the intake port .
Although if blowby into the crankcase exceeds the flow through the drilled passage to the intake port . Crankcase fumes will now be pushed out the starting engine air cleaner . The topic was a Mr Thinker question about 3-4 months ago.

It vents through the pony engine oil drain hole, into the pony engine (up the governor cover) , up the steel tube connected from the rear of the pony engine and into the air cleaner. If your air cleaner oil cup is over flowing or the outside of the air cleaner is always covered with oil...your diesel engine has excessive blow by.
