1946 model b fanshaft

After I replaced new bearings, snap ring and a good used gear. There a gap between inner race and step up shaft like in picture with yellow circle. Does bearing inner race and gear suppose press all the way down step up shaft OR inner race and gears suppose to be all way up against the snap ring like in other picture with yellow circle? Is there suppose a washer behind snap ring? The parts catalog doesn't show washer. it's shows inner race, gear and snap ring It was like that before I replace bearing and gear

The bearing race and gear are to be up against the snap ring. That way it can't move any more so your gear teeth mesh and backlash adjustment settings will stay put.
