JD 3010 how to check valve clearance .

I have a JD 3010 with gas engine. It has an odd misfire when running. And it sounds like it is loosing compression while turning over by making an odd pop kind’ve Noise through the exhaust.

I want to check the valve lash. What is the proper procedure for checking valve clearance? Not my tractor. Don’t have a manual.

Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

first on the list ... check compression. then you go to the next step. have you checked valve lash on engines before?. dont matter if john deere or international or chevrolet.all same procedure. get # 1 cyl. on compression stroke at TDC and check lash and adjust.you follow the firing order. so if the order is 153624 you check and adjust # 5 cyl next. keep going through the firing order till done. need to find your valve clearance spec. as i dont have it. sounds like you have a burnt valve already so if compresssion is low on any cyl. and valves have lash then time to remove head for work.

Thanks for the response.
That’s what I thought.
And, that’s what I did.
Everything was fine.

*** The owner had the firing order off. After checking the valve lash, I went back to #1 piston on TDC and checked the rotor in the distributor and it was way off. !!!!
So I moved the plug wires in the correct order starting from that #1 and when I tried it it fired right away.
