Trouble Shooting Power Steering

Changing the power steering fluid did not correct my problem. The steering wheel still has to turn about 3/4 to 1 full turn from center before I get any movement from the front assembly. There seems to be only about 1/2" play with the steering arms and tie rods.

I just mow with this tractor and it had worked fine before, but with the last few mowings, the steering seems to be getting worse or almost non existent at times. I have a service manual, but that only says so much. Is this the flow control valve, even though the steering WAS working fine?

Also, I may add, that when driving, it seems the front wheels could go quickly in one direction, but then come right back, when going straight. It happens real quick though.

Thanks for the help,

Bob

First thing you need is the Power Steering Manual SM-2050 and measuring tools. There a few critical dimensions that need to be spot on. Hopefully your steering box and pump are in decent condition and all it is setting those dimensions.

If you do a search you will find some old

I figured out that there was a 3/4" bolt missing for the linkage that attaches the steering pedestal to the steering arms. But, I do have flutter in the right front wheel only that I have to figure out. I will have to look into that.

Thanks,

Bob
