Dealership buyout 1954

Here's a thought to ponder about how much the times have changed, my Dad bought out the local JD dealer in the Fall of 1954 just parts and inventory not the property for $25,000 then purchased the property where the local Massy Harris dealer sat for another $25,000 . He was still farming and doing custom work, but needed the farm income at first for cash flow to run the new business.

Our local Mega-Dealer spent $25,000 per acre for one of their stores..about 12 acres..open acreage..then built a multi million dollar store on it..all this fuels the fire for Higher cost...

Do you have any pics? I really enjoy old dealership pics especially from the late 50's to the early 70's. Do you still have any items with the family dealer imprint? That would be real nice stuff to have as well. Tom

Yea I have some stuff never enough, the neatest thing is a picturemt dad took of my mom before they were married on a JD 620 hicrop which they sold to a Christmas tree farmer near Ottawa Illinois where the dealership was. Original building front stayed the same from 1954 until about 1980

(quoted from post at 12:00:17 07/27/18) There is no little guy starting that anymore, will be big corporations or doctors.

The hedge fund guy that bought out our local dealer owns something like 25 dealerships.

The one in our area,Central Ohio, has 14 I think,,no one answers the phone,,service is awful..John Deere has shown us what they think of us,,letting this happen...

John Deere didn't just 'let' it happen, they 'made' it happen. They pushed out all the small dealerships so they would have fewer dealers to work with.
