my major concern is no oil shows in gearbox. I used a nearby MF 50 engine dipstick and it came out dry.

what else looks not right ?

Looks to me that the tiller needs to be set up like being hooked to the tractor, all the oil is away from the hole. Try a piece of wire. Also needs tines soon. Lower two point arm mounts wider than normal and seems like it wouldn't be centered on tractor.

I think it was set up as an off set. wire is good idea.

Tine flanges are bent on outside set
Bottom edges of side of tiller body are worn almost to bearing
Tines are very worn $7-10 each depending on where you find them

Looks to have had a rough life, would have to be very cheap!
