new fuel tank for Model M?

Does anyone know where I could get a new fuel tank for a JD Model M? I've seen 1-2 places that will refurb them for about $300 -- is that typical? Are people having good luck with having that one? Obviously I'd love to find a new old stock one - I've seen some old ads for some, but nothing recent.

Many thanks,
Dave

Dave,

Try Dengler Vintage Tractor Parts in Middletown, Ohio. Phone 513-423-4000 or 513-423-0706. Got a gas tank for my 60 std. from them. Not cheap but quick delivery and excellent quality. If you want to go cheap google TPtools and get a gas tank repair kit and DIY. BTDT both.

Thanks, Dan, much appreciated. Is that tank pictured new old stock, a refurbed one, or just used? It looks good. I don't want to spent a fortune, but I don't want to go cheap, either -- I want it done right.

Dave,

All I can tell you is it was repainted, extremely clean inside and out and even came with a new red cap (good as new all round). This tank fit my high seat 60 std serial no. 64400 and higher and is made with the filler hole in the extreme upper left corner, not as common as other 60's being that way less than 1000 of these tractors were built. Called them from work on a Monday morning early and it was waiting on my door step when I got home on Thursday. Just relined/derusted my 1950 B's gas tank using the motor cycle gas tank kit from TPtools here in Ohio.

What is wrong with yours? I would just get a good used one. Rusty acres ranch is a good source as is eBay but you have to be careful with the latter. There are some crazy parts jocks on there. They are too plentiful to bring anywhere near that much money. A bill and a half ought to be plenty. JMO
