Well, don't ask me to explain why it took so long but we finally started the 4020 today that I updated the starter and put a new battery box on it.

Here is an earlier post.

Anyway, it spun at 250 rpm with the new starter and the type 31 batteries. Recall the owner wanted to go this route and I built him a new battery box. Boy, was he happy.

Here is an older post that has the data I took on the old battery/starter configuration:

Basically it went from cranking at 80-90 RPM to 250 RPM under the same conditions.

That includes upgraded starter and batteries type to get to the 250 RPM. I personally believe the upgraded starter had the biggest impact. Had we gone to JD Strongbox batteries to fit the factory boxes I think it would have worked fine. Obviously the Type 31 batteries helped even more.

MT35 is a gear reduction starter with a conventional field . Up to 4.5Kw or so. http://www.delcoremy.com/getmedia/8604e864-85d0-4630-8fad-72d6f01378d0/Delco-35MT-Single-Page-Brochure-12-14.pdf.aspx

My 3020 has a gear reduction starter but the cheap 150$ one and I really like it . Spins that motor over a lot faster than the 12 volt starter on my 4020
