JD No 5 Sickle Mover problem

JD Sickle Mower No 5
Why does the stud pin (wrist pin) fly out of the crank wheel and disconnect the pitman. I just replaced the plate holding the bearing as the plate had broke when cutting. Is something out of adjustment such as the position of the sickle bar? I use my JD "M" for power.

The pin a a TIGHT press fit into the "Flywheel".

If the pin and /or the "flywheel" have worn so the pin is no longer a TIGHT press fit it's probably time to look for a good used "flywheel".

If I remember correctly, there were at least 2 versions used over the mower's long production run.

I agree with Bob. Flywheels are easy to source on ebay or most any tractor salvage yard. I ended up buying a 2nd whole mower for $50 off craigslist when I rebuilt my No. 5 years ago.

Hi

Yes I wondered about the tightness of the stud bolt but I do have to pound in the stud currently with a hammer. I now see I have a slight bend in the plate holding the box bearing leading me to believe it may be an alignment of the bar issue. Any further ideas?
