Hydraulic fluid leak?- John deere 950

Yesterday after bush-hogging, noticed fluid dripping from underneath the tractor. It is leaking hydraulic fluid from the center of the tractor almost exactly under the space between the seat and steering wheel where the gear shift to the transmission (1, 2, reverse, etc.) is located. The fluid is draining from a weep hole? in the casing (best I can tell it is a weep hole, there is nothing in the opening and does not appear to be threaded. According to my research, there is normally a cotter pin located here but mine is missing). Thoughts on what the issue is here? Where do I have a leak?

If black diesel oil, likely engine rear main seal.

If hydraulic/transmission oil, likely the transmission input shaft seal.

Bob, is there any way to tell the difference without cracking the tractor open? The oil draining out is a dark black color (reminded me of motor oil) but not sure it is transmission oil versus dirty hydraulic fluid. Thought to be hydraulic fluid/oil as the PTO was acting up a bit at the time but also when trying to drive the tractor home, the back wheels nearly locked down and would not pull the tractor up our long driveway to the shed. Had to stop and let the tractor "cool down" before proceeding.

Could the clutch have been slipping due to oil in the clutch housing?

Obviously, if it's engine oil it's gonna be nasty and black vs. the relatively amber color of typical transmission hydraulic oil.

Either way, it has to be "split" be repaired, and replacing BOTH the rear main/crankshaft seal AND the transmission input shaft seal would be the prudent thing to do.

Thank you Bob for the input. I am not a tractor person but have had to learn a few things about them. I try to research the problem(s) so as to order the right parts; my brother is the mechanic. Thanks to this group for real answers. I trust
the advice given here more than the contacts at our local dealer.
