mine hasnt worked for several years but this thread got me brave enough to try. sure enough, the pump had no oil even when the check level plug showed full. so i filled the pump and no lift. so i backed the tractor up hill and fill the big line with oil. did not help with lift. so i thot what the heck and added extra oil and the lift finally worked.now since it is probably over filled, should i open the check plug and let the excess oil out and hope that i will still have lift of the drawbar?

Nope. If you overfill it the worst that can happen is seepage from the rockshaft ends where the arms attach & they are gonna seep anyhow. If it's way overfull it will puke the excess out of the breather cap. Run it a while and then change the oil.

If the pump has been running dry there's a good chance you will need to replace the pump seal. Just keep a close eye on the engine oil level. If it starts rising you will need to replace it.

It will find a way out for sure. Even if you just fill it to the right level it finds a way out on ground that isn't level. My MT leaked, my 1010 currently leaks and I just keep cardboard under it at this point.
