John Deere 50

well just my luck putting the radiator cap back on the John Deere 50 tonight and the filler neck broke off in my hand now my question is has anyone ever replace a filler neck before? or is it a radiator shop repair? thanks for any advise Howard

been looking online for a replacement but mine is a early serial numbered 50 and all I can find is the later serial numbered 50 will the later style fit in the early radiator? anyone have a good source for a replacement filler neck? Thanks Howard

The part numbers are all different between the early and later serial numbers. I'd say the neck won't interchange without some fancy modification.

While you're checking, check the price of a matching radiator cap. The cap for my early JD 50 fell apart recently, and a new one is around $50. I drilled through the center of the old cap and made some new internal parts using a 1/4" brass bolt, a 2" brass disc, a stainless steel spring and a round tire patch. Now the cap has a little brass button on the top of it, and it's the first thing that everyone notices. Some folks grin at it, and others frown.

I mention this because your cap may be on the verge of failure too.
