Have 4010 that injector pump gear on cam teeth sheared off just bought the machine like that and was wondering what may have caused that and should I be looking for something besides the obvious to find the real culprit or what else may have been damaged. Can cam be replaced from bottom end? Thank you Michael

Inj pump cam drive gear has a history of wearing out BUT I'd suggest to check inj pump to be sure head & rotor aren't seized. Cam can be replaced by removing cam out the front of engine. One either must turn engine upside down or hold lifters up. There are special magnets designed to hold lifters up while R&R camshaft

If it is like a 3010 there are two different cams. One has much finer teeth than the other. Inspect oil pump gear as well.I bought a 3020 that the pump locked up and ate all the teeth. Tom

They had put a new injector pump on so it is okay but don't know about old one as I'm sure they traded it in. Don't think will be turning upside down so will have to get magnets for followers as will probably replace them too. looking at old posts seems newgenjdcollector may have a nice rebuild that would work trying to see if he still is in that mind set but I cannot seem to figure out how to get his information so hope he sees this. Will keep looking in members but 55000 pages and don't see how to narrow it down. Thanks guys for info bought this as a spare so have time to work on it.

I performed a search on Modern View of this forum & newgenjdcollector's email box was OPEN on the thread below

yep Thank you worked at it all day and finally went into modern view and was able to navigate much better and saw the same post you have and sent an email. Thanks again for your help have seen you have helped a good many Kudos its certainly appreciated. We will have to see if I want to tackle a rebuild or buy one like aforementioned ready to go and done by a perfectionist. You see the way I'm leaning ha

Have torn things down more and looked at#2 rod bearings upper a little more worn than lower I think that is normal and they look OK but while down thought I would put in new main and rod bearings the only markings I can find on the shell is fm R-44378 4 72 this is on a 63 tractor 21T44121 so bearings have been replace at least once but cannot tell from shells if standard or not the rod journal appeared to be in spec at 2.998 can anyone tell from above numbers if standard or not? Outside the rod journal was some stamping 17 and a 35 with a circle with an offset and 19 with a circle and an offset on the opposite side don't know what that means. Since the cam gear sheared off thought I would rebuild the engine oil pump while have it open but cannot find a rebuild kit for it found shaft and gear but that's it except for used ones or brand new ones. If I took it out and cleaned well and put in new shaft and gear will that suffice if nothing wrong as I just want to make sure no metal went through the pump and put new gear on to match with new gear on cam. jd wants the engine serial number to match up I cannot find this unless it is behind the frame rail as looks as might be there, the block casting is R26070R will that be enough to tell which pump I need or wait to pull out oil pump and see if it has a woodruff key ? Thanks for all the help
