Tractor with shuttle shift/reverser recomendation

I am very partial to the 40, 50, and 55 series tractors. However I need a hay tractor for mowing and moving bales and I would like it to have shuttle shift/reverser for the loader work.

I want a reliable tractor in the 75-100hp range, cab, with reverser.

What series should I be looking at? Looking for something that comes close to the reliability and strength of the older tractors.

Or should I just try to find a decent 4040 or 4050? Im comfortable with those but was looking for something a little easier/more convenient to operate for my father. Im just not familiar with the reputations of the “newer” series.

The best would be a JD 7400 at 105 PTO HP. Even without a left hand reverser the majority of them should have been changed to the three lever Power Quad transmission controls. The JD 6400 would have the same controls with the power quad. With the three lever control you have Park, Forward and Reverse all on one lever. Then you have the power shifts on one 1,2,3,&4. Then you have your Range shifter lever A,B,C,& D. I actually like that over the left hand reverser. I am just used to doing everything right handed.

The JD 7400/10 has a great cab and the option of a right hand door. The access with a joystick loader is kind of cramped but it is nice to be able to get in that side for reaching PTO controls. Jobs like unloading corn or silage wagons is easier.

I have round baled with a 7810 with power quad and left hand reverser. Sure is handy once you get used to it. Maybe a little overkill but the 7400, 7600 and 6000 series would be the same set-up, but just guessing.
