M no hydraulic pressure

I replaced the seal in my hydraulic pump, filled up the reservoir until oil came out the hole. I started it up and tried to raise the drawbar, nothing happened, I then cracked the larger pipe fitting going into the pump and no oil came out. Oil still comes out the hole when I take the plug out, so I do not think it is low on oil. What am I missing? thanks
 
The large pipe would be the suction, you should fill that if you can, and the pump, and the loosen the smaller one to bleed the air out.
We used to have an M, nice little tractor!
 
Sounds like you have a leak on the suction portion of the hyd. plumbing that isn't allowing the hyd. pump to catch prime. Possibly on the connection at the pump since you had that apart or, worse case scenario, the shaft seal got damaged during installation?

We've never had issues getting our 40 to catch prime but I suppose you could park the tractor with the front / nose pointed down an incline(use common sense here)& it might aid in the operation.......

Any ideas on how to prime the suction pipe? I can pour oil into the pump, but how do I fill the pipe? thanks.
 
Like Russ Said. First hing I would try is to is take the suction fitting lose at the pump and fill the pump with oil. That may be enogh to get the system primed.
 

I have the radiator off, is it ok to run the tractor while I prime it, or should I just crank it with the ignition off?
 
It will not hurt the engine to run a few
minutes without the radiator but I don't
recommend it. My idea of a few minutes and
someone else's might be 20 minutes apart.

I would put the radiator back on and fill
it. Take the line off the pump and fill it.
Retighten all the large line fittings from
front to back. If that doesn't work break
the large line loose at the joint near the
dash and fill it with oil.

If just filling the pump and tightening all
those large fittings doesn't work you need
to replace the rubber seals to fix it
right.
 
I had a 420 which didn't catch prime......... until
I put an air hose into the fill pipe, wrapped a rag around it to "seal", ran the engine fast for 10 seconds and she "caught".

You might consider using a hand crank, if one is available, to turn the motor over several times.

I poured oil into the pump and the line, started it and ran it and the hydraulics worked! Put everything back together and ran for awhile and everything looks good. Thanks for all your help
