1942 John Deere LA Questions

Hello!

I am restoring my 1942 John Deere LA tractor.
I have four questions about it:

1) Does anyone have the original wiring diagram for the LA?

2) I am converting it to a 12 volt system but I'm not completely sure what all I need to modify. I was told my starter will be fine. There's no generator on it currently, so I need to get one. What generator nowadays is most original to the tractor? Have any of you converted to a 12V system on an old John Deere tractor before? If so, what exactly did you do and what parts exactly did you buy?

3) What is the correct color for the rear rims of the tractor? I've seen it with yellow rims and yellow wheels in some pictures and in other pictures silver rims and yellow wheels. What is original?

4) Does anyone else have a JD LA? How do you shut it off? Do you just push the throttle lever into the housing all the way past idle to kill it? The guy I bought the tractor off of said that's how you shut it off, however, I've owned several antique tractors in my lifetime and never once have I shut if off that way. Can anyone lend insight into whether or not this is the correct way? If not, what is the correct way?

Thank you for your help! I greatly appreciate it!

I will add, there should be a kill button on the mag, can use that or run out of fuel.

LA should have green wheels with black centers, LI should be yellow.

Why are you going to 12 volt? I had a 6 volt LA and it did fine starting the LA. I believe Ridenours and Rusty Acres Ranch both sell 6 volt generators.

Thanks everyone for your input so far.

Most people around here have suggested that I will "appreciate" the ease of starting the tractor with a 12V system as opposed to a 6V. I have a Farmall I converted to 12V and it certainly starts up very quickly and conveniently. Likewise, I have an Allis Chalmers B and it starts noticeably harder. When it's cold, it takes a few tries. When it's warm, it's fine. But, I'm not going to blame that all on the 6V...could be other issues under the surface too!

But, from you guys' experience, the 12V is inappropriate for the LA?

How was the LA originally shut off? Did John Deere really design it so that farmers would just let it run out of gas? Or did they intend for farmers to use the kill switch on magneto?

Furthermore, did they ever come factory-equipped with a kill switch button, possibly one closer to the operator's platform?

Thanks!

It was designed to use the kill switch on the magneto.

I was on my dad's, the governor came loose, I put it in 3rd, dad ran alongside and pushed the button.
