4020 replacement fuel tank

has anyone here used one of the poly/plastic replacements? good, bad, ugly?? or better to repair the one I got? ... mine rusted a hole in it,,anyway there was a big stain in the dirt , and an empty fuel tank.. dangit,, I know I drained the water out of it ... uh well... some time ago..30 years sure goes by kinda fast anymore....not a big fan of pour in liners....

Had my original fuel tank repaired by a reputable radiator shop many years ago. They said it wasn't feasible to solder or braze it so they used a liquid lining. Lasted until this past winter and started leaking again. Local JD mech said to get a new plastic replacement. Waiting to get that done.

Installed one of the poly/plastic ones 5+ years ago haven't heard anything about it, just the bands just never seemed to tighten up to hold the air cleaner housing. Finally quit since I thought I was crushing the tank.

Gas or diesel???? If diesel I would have the original fixed. If gas I would line it if the hole was smaller and replace it with a different used tank if the hole is large. I do not like the plastic replacement tanks as they crush when trying to hold the air cleaner brackets. I installed two and had to make brackets on them both after the customer ran them awhile. The brackets would slowly slide down the tank. I was afraid they would crack the tank or rub a hole in it. So I made a bracket that hold the bands from sliding down the tanks. The one fellow complains his seems to have more water form condensation than his steel tanks. I would think the steel tank would be worse but he swears the plastic is.

JD seller,, its a diesel, console model..air cleaner has no precleaner, if that makes a difference...

next thing is,, when I get this all apart,, what is problem with the fuel gage that reads 'full' all the time? I have changed sending units, gages, ran different wires,,,

Installed plastic tank from Abilene Machine in a 3010 diesel this spring, everything went OK.
