I have a 1954 model 60. When I let it sit like over the winter, It leaks antifreeze into one of the cylinders. When I first start it after sitting for a long time it blows coolant out of the exhaust and misses until it gets all the coolant out of the cylinder. It doesn?t get any coolant in the oil and runs fine. Only seems to get coolant in the cylinder when it sits. Do you think it is a head gasket or possibly a cracked head? Also it doesn?t overheat when I use it to mow with a no.8 mower! Thanks for your advice.

My 60 head gasket weeps when plowing have been told they had issues back in the day. I stopped mine weeping by turning radiator cap back to first stop so coolant will not pressurize. Everything is good now. You might try a sealant they offer some really good products.

One of mine was doing the same thing, I milled and checked the block and the head,,still did it,,ended up draining it clean and used a jar of "Water Glass" and clean water ,,let it in there all summer and it stopped it,,drained it and put antifreeze back in and still good..My thought is a small crack that did not show up on the test was still causing the leakage..

Try this trick my dad use to do and when cool loosen the head on the side that's not leading and tighten the side leaking first. It worked for us and if the nut will not move then it might be bottom out on the threads. We have run in to that also.

Model 60 and the late A's were bad about bad head gaskets and cracked blocks. Often times you get one with cracks going around the inside of the cyl. bore down around where the top of the piston travel is on the upper side. Inspect that area super good if you pull one apart !

My '53 did sorta the same thing. Turned out to be a very fine crack in the LH cyl. wall - had it sleeved (both sides -NOT inexpensive) and all is good now. Bored back to standard, used stock pistons (in good shape) and new rings.
