A few days ago I made a post about the coil getting hot on a 3020 gas. The 6v coil was getting 13 v or whatever the system voltage was. The owner called me to tell me he got the problem solved. He called a Deere man who knows his stuff and presented his problem. The Deere man said the resistor wire to the coil is supposed to have about 2.2 ohms resistance. The owner dug around in the cut off wires under the dash and found the resistor wire, it measured 2.6 ohms on his meter. The previous owner had cut the resistor wire and bypassed it with a straight wire for some unknown reason. He hooked the resistor wire back up to the coil and now the tractor purrs and the coil doesn’t get hot. So he’s a happy camper tonight and rightfully so.
