Tim and other hydraulic experts, a question

My 4430 has very slow hydraulics including the steering and remotes at low RPMs. Seems like it may be worse when it is hot. I have been told to touch all of the SCV boxes to see if any are getting hot, they don't seem to be. Next step someone told me is to take the cowl off and see if the steering valves are hot. Anyone heard of that being a problem before?

Before or after s.n. 027624?

Steering system was changed at that point, later system is less likely to have a high pressure leak to sump, IMHO, and the actual high pressure valve will be under the hood, not in the steering pedestal like the older version, going back to the 4010.

Weak transmission oil flow can cause this,, the main pump can only flow what is delivered to it,,assuming that the sump screen and filter are clean,,do you know if the trans. pump has been changed in the past few years?? Several things can be the cause so process of elimination is the starting point.

Sump screen and filter are clean. The local Deere dealer has been in the tranny a couple of times in the last 1000 hours so I think if the pump had been bad they would have changed it. I checked the pressure and it is right where it should be, about 2250.

even if the trans pump is weak the system can fill a gauge to read 2250psi,,,,the replacement pump is much bigger than the original,,you can tell by looking through the bung hole on the rear beside the top link mounting..the pressure regulating valve on the clutch operating valve can make for low flow also.. My thoughts are you are not getting enough oil to the front pump,,so we need to think in that line of thought first.. also see if anything changes with the PTO on or off,,,Hi/ low one way or the other...

Would that be No. 1 on this diagram? And what do I look for when I take it out?

Am I supposed to be able to tell something looking at this? My Local JD service guy said you can start the tractor and if you see oil trickling down through this hole you have problems. Is that correct?
