4440 planetary gears

Does anyone know of a place that custom makes different planetary and sun gears? My friend has a 4440 pulling tractor and can't get any more speed. He doesn't want to go into the trans unless it is the last resort. I know some 6030 can put scraper planetary and sun gears to increase the speed but didn't find any different gears for the 4440.

Where are you located and what kind of class is your friend running? Just how fast does he want to go?

There were three different ratio final drives on the small frame Waterloo tractors. 4.16:1 used only on the 4010. 4.8:1 used on 4020’s through 4255’s and 6.17:1 used on three models, 4440, 4450 and 4455.

They should all interchange so long as the brake parts follow the correct final.

I warn you and your friend, if he has enough power to run road gear now changing the finals to faster gear set will only put more stress on the trans. The stock trans is only good for around 1000 hp, then things start breaking.

I agree with Mike,,I try to stay away from the pulling Bug,,but around here many have caught it bad,, It seems that the top shaft Sycro assembly will only stand about 750HP before they detonate,,and the hexiel cut gears put a lot of pressure on the bottom shaft lock collar,,most with high power turn the transmission into a 3 spd, welding the top shaft and run straight cut gears using high 10% and 20% over high..

Your buddy is chancing the wrong end. I will second TimS in that the serious pullers change the transmission. You can buy the parts to do it with. There is not any easy/bolt on ratio that I know of for the final drives.

The tractor has a riverside engine, 5 disc wet clutch, and a built hi/low. He starts out in d3 and shifts to d4 at the start of the pull. The only trans work that has been done to it is the hi range drum exploded and I had to replace it. It has been running that way for 4 years and that is the only thing that has been done to it. I thought it would be cheaper to do the planetary gears than to do the trans.

Problem is that you will be doing the trans fairly soon after if you switch finals. You can always give it a try and do the trans custom shaft update after it blows up.

If he already broke the high range drum then changing the finals is not going to help things.

When mine broke it broke the drum, the stub shaft out the back of the quad, cracked the input shaft and popped teeth off the C range/High Range Pinion, I have no idea what broke first, but it was a mess. I ended up going to a 3 speed with a 4 disc dry clutch.

Your buddy’s tractor sounds like one I know, wouldn’t happen to be Decker Farms would it?
