J D 1946 A Slant Dash

Can I remove the shaft in the oil pump without removing the oil pump it's self, I think the coupling is broken and I would like to know the easiest way to replace it, thank you. Ron Cutler, [email protected] or 219-771-1343

The last A I worked on the pump shaft came down with the gear when I removed the gear cover on the pump. Best remove the top cover for the crankcase and see if the coupler is intact, then remove the gear cover if you have to replace the coupler and don't loose the key from the gear/shaft.

If you get 2 bolts about 3" long to put in the holes in the pump cover before you take the last 2 out, you can let it down that far. Be sure to drain the oil.......... and you will need to remove the crankcase top cover to get to the coupler. I hope this helps.
