JD M Cut Out Relay

I am in the need of a cut out relay for my M. I got one at a bone yard but it smells burnt and doesn't seem to work, even though I'm not sure how to test. I know it's an obsolete part from JD. Any links there any reproductions out there or is this one rebuildable? I don't know much about them. Thanks!

(quoted from post at 12:27:20 06/28/18) This site sells a conversion kit to the voltage regulator and new regulators.

If I go that route, wouldn't I have to replace my switch as well? Would I have to rewire a different way?

If you can keep the system with a cut out relay I think you will be happier as you will not have to rewire everything else.
JD Part Number: AM 352T
Delco Part Number: 1116816

Per All States Ag Parts they have a universal cut relay that replaced the Delco 1116816, All State Part Number: 118090

There are two different electric things going on. The light switch has the manual Low High CHARGE CONTROL, its used (as original) when you DO NOT have a full fledged Voltage Regulator (IE the old original cutout relay system). If you converted to a Voltage Regulator system, the light switch no longer regulates charge but ONLY the lights and its no longer wired down to the gennys FLD terminal.

The Cutout Relay has but two terminals, BAT and GEN, it connects the gennys ARM post to the battery (via ammeter and relay) when shes charging (cutout relay closed) but opens otherwise upon shutdown.

Sooooooooooo you can 1) Buy a new Cutout Relay and continue use of the light switches Low High charge control (it has a wire down to gennys FLD post) 2) Convert to a full fledged Voltage Regulator which as an internal cutout relay PLUS it wires to the gennys FLD to regulate charge and you no longer run the wire from FLD on genny to the light switch.

OLD Cutout Relay system: Gennys ARM to ARM/GEN on cutout relay and BAT on relay to ammeter,,,,,,,,,Gennys FLD to light switch

Voltage Regulator System: Gennys ARM to ARM on VR,,,,,,,,,,,Gennys FLD to FLD on VR,,,,,,,,,,BAT on VR to ammeter

Some just use a DIODE to replace the old Cutout Relay

Talk to Jim at Agri Services in New York www.wiringharnesses.com I think??

Id keep it original, just buy a new cutout relay and use the manual light switch Low High

Thanks everyone. If I go with a generic one (like the one Hay Maker suggested), I could then leave everything else the way it is correct?

I already have a new wiring harness so I really don't want to think about rewiring.

Would the switch's high/low positions be fine with this generic cut out or will I need to add anything else?

Thanks. Once I get all of this hooked up, will I need to polarize the generator? If so, how do I do that for 6 volt positive ground?

BEFORE starting, use a jumper wire to momentarily flash BAT over to GEN on the Cutout Relay,,,,,,,,,,, Or you could flash from BAT direct down to the Gennys ARM post,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Or use any hot ungrounded 6 volt battery feed/source to flash to the Gennys ARM post....

The switches High/Low manual charge control operates with a wire from it down to the Gennys FLD post, so a new Cutout Relay doesn't change that, its ONLY from BAT/Ammeter to the Gennys ARM post
