JD 3020 diesel problem

If you have the Roosa Master/Standyne "DB" series injection pump, likely, the "governor damper ring" in your injection pump has failed, and turned into what looks like "coffee grounds" and is clogging the return fitting/pressure regulating valve in the pump cover.

This causes the pump to build up internal pressure, which prevents the pumping plungers from taking on a charge of fuel, and fuel injection (and the engine)stops.

To confirm this, if you can do this safely, loosen the 2 screws in the little timing window, which allows fuel to leak, and relieves housing pressure.

The engine should then start and run, confirming the need for a pump rebuild.

As a side note, in the odd event the fuel return line back to the tanks has been damaged, crushed, or otherwise block, this will cause the same problem.

Removed the timing cover and found some black particles in the opening, tractor started right up and ran good, fuel came out of the opening.
