JOHN DEERE G NO FIRE TO PLUGS

Good Day All! Need some help here please. Kid bought a John Deere G with round cap- points/condenser distributor. installed new autolite plugs, new accel 7mm wires, points-condenser-cap & rotor from john deere dealer. seem to run fine last year. Drained old gas and put new in. I can't get any fire to the plugs. I have juice to distributor and points. Bad condenser??? Thanks-Bruce I also installed a new coil last year too. Ideas???

With the cap, rotor and dust cover if it has one off. Turn on the ignition. Open and close the points by hand carefully. You should both see and hear a spark when you do that. No spark means the points are dirty/corroded and need to be cleaned. If you have spark at the points then you either have a bad cap or bad rotor

Happy, Your good question gets asked all the time so I have a Generic Troubleshooting Procedure for battery powered coil distributor ignition systems assuming this is what you have NOT a Magneto right???????

Its possible to troubleshoot with no fancy tools, mostly just your eyes, maybe a simple DC test light.

Work through this step by step and you may be able to find the cause, likely something simple

"seem to run fine last year"

It is common for points that have set for awhile to develop a tarnish that prevents contact of the two sides. Cleaning often restores it to operation.

Take a dollar bill, fold it over a couple times, move it through the closed points and try again.

I have never had any luck using a dollar bill other then maybe ripping it. I instead use a true point file which is only around a buck
