Removing wheel rim bolts on 730

I am trying to change the rims on my 730 and I have all the nuts off the bolts for the clamps, but no matter how hard I beat on the bolts, I can't seem to get them to move, and I am using a big heavy hammer.

Three or four were so rusted that when I tried to remove the nuts, the bolts broke off flush with the rim. I have sprayed them with PB Blaster and let them sit over night , but still no luck.

Do you think heat might work here? I am kind of afraid to put heat to the bolt because of fear the cast iron rim might crack due to different expansion rates then steel. Right now I am in the process of cutting off the old rim so I can get a better angle to beat on the bolts better. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I've used a heavy-duty air hammer.

Also, you don't have to fear heating the BOLTS.

heat and allow to cool and repeat several times, use "loosen juice" and try to move them when they're cool.

Your going to need heat and an good HEAVY air hammer. Watch beating on the casting with a sledge hammer. I have seen them cracked. You need to rattle it with the air hammer. Beat on the head going in and then on the other side. Back and forth. I usually have better luck forgetting the liquid oils. They are rusted solid. The rust will fall/blow out if dry. Wet it down with penetrating oil and it is just stuck there. The oil can't get into the deep parts anyway.

I had to use the torch to get mine out on the 4010......the bolt will melt before the cast and I didn't cut into the cast at all as I "blew" out the bolt from the hole.

I have no problem using a good punch hold it with vice grips and a 5 ib hammer. Takes awhile but I always get them out. put nut on even with threads and stay in the center of bolt so it don't mushroom.

I just cut the rim off and two came out with hitting them with a sledge hammer, but the others are stuck solid. They moved maybe a 1/4 to a 1/2 inch, but nothing more. I will go out and put some heat on them.

When you say air hammer, is it the same type you would use to break up concrete? I just rented a hand held electric air hammer to break up a concrete pier this weekend. Would this work , just with a flat head?

What about the ones that broke off at the rim? Should I try to drill those out, or use an air hammer there also?

Cut them off flush heat them up and let them cool a bit then use a good punch that is ground off good ans flat on the end,,heat and cool again if needed,,using a flat end on the punch will keep them from mushrooming..

You can do like Tim and Rick are saying, use a good squared ended punch and heavy hammer. I can not swing a hammer very well anymore. So I use an air hammer more. If you notice the air hammer in the picture has a longer barrel than most of the cheaper ones. This is a long stoke air hammer or heavy air hammer.
