Hello, new to the forum and first time poster. Was at a auction yesterday and ended up getting caught up in and winning the bid on a john deere 7520. Have a few questions, but first ill give a little background on the tractor. The tractor has been sitting for awhile and supposedly when it was parked the only thing known wrong with it was the oil pressure light had come on. Tractor isnt in the greatest shape but it isnt beat all to pieces either. Its showing around 7000hrs on it. We attempted to move it but ran into an issue of not being able to get it out of park. Any ideas of what could be up with that or tricks to get it out? Also any thought on the oil issue, possibly the sending unit needs replacing? Lastly what kind of values do these tractors have? Obviously i know condition and actually running and all affect the overall value but what is a good general idea of these tractors value? Are they sought after due to the fact there wasnt many made? Thanks in advance.

Since this is a synchro-range tractor using 2 shift cables, likely there's a stuck Morse cable.

Probably lucky you DIDN'T get it out of park, unless you understand the "TOW" position on the shift quadrant.

Can't remember, offhand, where that position is, but DO NOT tow it without being in the correct shift lever position, or $$$$$$ transmission damage will QUICKLY occur.

there is a 7520 for sale in my area with what they are calling a bearing noise in the transmission or a noise in reverse, they have had it for sale
for at least 3 years id say. just saw it listed again for 8500. looks to have a new injection pump and is in fairly decent condition. if i had money
to spend i would look into it more but I'm afraid that's not the case. there is a 7020 with 8560 hours that looks to be in good shape too on an online
auction that ends tonight and its currently at $10,100 plus about 20% in commission and taxes if they make them pay tax, i have bought a couple farm
items from them and they charged me tax on them, it was low dollar items so i didn't jump them on it but something that much i would be.

i hear of good ones selling for and listed for 10-12k maybe more if above average condition

As Bob said below make sure it is in tow position before attempting to move it.As for the oil light
issue, there is a good possibility the gear that drives the oil pump off of the camshaft has stripped due
to the camshaft moving back and forth. Put a manual gauge in place of the oil sender, and spin it over
with the starter to see if it does indeed have oil pressure before attempting to start it.

I looked at the same tractor at the sale yesterday. I restored a 7020 in about the same shape several years ago but only had 3100 org hrs. You
got a good buy. I noticed the Hi lo cable was stuck. It's still available. As far as getting it out of park. My 7020 was always tight coming out if
park and with it yours not running it'll be tough. Be sure to look at the trains cover. Mine was rusted thru and had to be replaced.

I will second stuck shifter cables for you not getting it out of park. I will say the value is all over the board on them. I saw a good restored one bring $25K not far from me. Better than new shape too. I see them in general running condition selling in the $10K range +/-. Ones with issues are in the $3500-7500 range depending on what is wrong with them.

I would listen to the other posts on how to check and make sure the engine has oil pressure or not. I will tell you this they are MISSERABLE to work on. The motors where not really built for the Horsepower everyone wanted out of them so about 100% of them have been turned up. The 531 JD motor was not great either. Doing motor work is harder because the motor is part of the front axle support. IRC even getting the oil pan off is an adventure. Transmissions and rear ends margin on holding up when turned up in HP. Long story short you can dump a pile of money and labor into getting one into working shape.
