1951 John Deer A Power-Trol

I recently purchased a 1951 John Deere A as a restoration project. It has something I've never seen before on a mddel "A" or "B". There are two hydraulic lines running from the Power-Trol unit on the back of the tractor, underneath the floor pan, and connecting to the housing underneath the instrument panel, just behind the distributor (the distributor is mounted to that same housing.) I have no idea what it's for?!?! I'm guessing it may have been provisioned for somehow running mid-mount or forward hydraulics, but that's just a guess. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, that is a pump for live hydraulics, thus you won't have to use the pto or shift the tractor into neutral and engauge the clutch to use.

What you have is one of the best value added options back in the day. I have one on my 49 A and it makes operating a loader easier as the others have stated. I do not know
exactly when they were made available by Deere but do remember seeing a FSB addressing their use or maybe a GM article. Actually GM did at one time have that SB available
reasonably priced .

Thanks Guys. This really helped!!!! I was guessing it was some sort of option or after-market feature, but couldn't find any info on-line or in my JD manual regarding it.

John Deere calls that a "Governor Driven Flange Mounted Pump". It's covered in the John Deere service manual SM-2011.
