A friend's 730 diesel (24 V electric start) has a bolt broke on the starter body end near the flywheel. It looks like made of brass. Parts Catalog says something like " Bolt, Special, 5 used " Reasons, Comments, etc., welcome, thanks. Ron

1/4 x 1 1/2 bolt. I guess I don't understand the question.
They obviously hold the housings together. Didn't remember
they were brass but it's been a while.

I guess my question is:

If it's really made of brass that seems to be rather weak in terms of the load those 5 bolts have to hold. There is obviously a lot of stress there when that diesel is rolling under compression.

I've seen lots of Delco starters of that style, and NEVER one with a brass bolt holding the endbell to the "belly".

Parts catalog shows part # R11020, jdparts subs it to a Grade 2 steel bolt. (Which, obviously doesn't prove what was in there originally.)

There could be dowel pins to prevent wiggle.
Usually the bolts only hold the housings together.
But most starters only have two bolts.
