John Deere 2550 Hi-Lo problem

I have a John Deere 2550 cab tractor, it is used for a little bit of everything. Saturday evening after pulling a disc mower for about 4 hours, I started to notice that the Hi-Lo was getting hard to shift and it seems this problem only occurs after the tractor is hot. Has anybody else had a similar problem? My guess at the moment is that a valve is bypassing somewhere and get the hydraulic oil hotter than normal. A little background on the tractor we have owned it for 23yrs and has about 5000hrs and is regularly maintained.

Tractors such as yours with closed center hyd's can have several places for oil to leak internally causing oil to heat. Normally it's a high pressure internal leak that causes heating of oil. Good method for checking leaking hyd component is check temps of each hyd component with laser thermometer. Is hyd oil cooler very clean?

If your lever moves hard there must be some thing in the linkage/valve area in the shift cover causing it,, the typical leakage these tractors are plugged with will not cause the lever to work hard..warm or cold...
