John Deere 4 row mounted cultivator upper lineup bracket

I am trying to mount a 4 row cultivator on my John Deere 60. After struggling with it for some time getting it level, I realized that the bracket for the upper lineup on the cultivator itself ( not the knob on the tractor but the triangular piece of metal with the hole for the knob) has been bent and rewelded so many times it no longer lines up. My question is, what is the function of this piece and is it wholely necessary? the 2 row on my b does not have this so I figure it is specific to the 4 row units. Thanks,

Pete

It should help keep the wings from flexing too much. Where are you located? I have a couple 400 cultivators here and maybe could sell you the top bar. email -farmer boy bill at gmail dot com- put it together like it should be for it to work.
