I have a (NTM) New To Me backhoe. it ran fine when I went to see it. I got it home, drove it a little around the farm and it stalled.
Changed the fuel filter, still stalling. I have an old Stanadyne injector pump that may need to be rebuilt. I read that a check valve could be bad and to remove it but I would not know it if it were looking at me. also is the unit that I prime the filter with is that a fuel supply pump? and how to diagnose if that where the problem is?????

I have little experience but have been around work all 60 plus years. low on funds big on will power.

Thanks for your help.
Mike

If fuel flow TO the injection pump is OK, but still runs a bit and dies, injection pump may need serviced. Confirm by taking loose the two screw timing cover plate on the injection pump side, if engine runs OK WITH the fuel leak, but dies with the cover tight, then it's confirmed it needs repair. Just repaired a JD 4020 pump for the same trouble..

Thank you.
I removed the check valve it had gunk built up inside. I soaked it in gas and brake cleaner took air hose to it ( nasty stuff came out). Put it together ran for 25 minutes. check valve has a little glass half dome was stuck but moves freely know. I will be using on Friday. I will update in case others have same issue.

After the engine dies try to loosen the fuel line feeding the pump from the filter. It should have lots of flow. If not you may have some sediment or blockage in the tank or lines from setting. If it has a electric shut off check to see if it has a full 12 volts to the pump, some are fussy and 11 wont do it. If loosing the timing window helps you need a reseal. Don't panic this isn't a ton of money, or at least it isn't if you shop around. Sounds like the guys in the east coast area are being beat up lately. If you are willing to use a computer to ask questions and get answers from someone miles away, then be willing to send your pump miles away to be repaired by someone who will treat you right. Make some calls and ask some questions. Like myself there are pump guys out there that are not out to retire off your one job. Don't just settle for who is close or who your neighbor used. Al

New find...
In the check valve from the return line to the tank has lots of small plastic chips from the Stanadyne fuel pump. I'm wondering can a small fuel filter be placed before the check valve.
