STX38 resale value?

I have a 1997 JD STX38 with a 13HP Kohler engine that's in really good shape. I'm considering selling it because I've moved and don't have enough yard to mow to justify having it. Can anyone tell me what would be considered a reasonable asking price, assuming everything works fine and it needs no repairs? Thanks in advance for any input!

Don't expect it would bring much ? I had a model 160 hydro which was ready to go and gone over really good fixing any known issues. New belts and deck bearings too. Had one hard time getting $ 500 out of it. Got alot of calls from pastures of churches that mow for eldery ( or so they claim ) wanting it donated. If yours is a gear drive expect less yet.

Thanks for the input. I was thinking of asking $450 for it, but realistically expect $400, considering I can prove everything works. I was just wondering if that was a reasonable estimation of its value. Thanks again.

Yours is a Black deck STX 38???? The earlier yellow deck ones were a little higher quality. To get $400-500 it would have to be in excellent shape. What has happened is the cheaper JD lawn mower market has died since the Home Depot mowers came along. They can buy a lower quality mower new for $1500 or so and finance that for a long period of time. So they do not have to have much of a down payment. So they can go out and buy a "new" mower with less cash money then they can buy a better quality used mower.

I will only buy Garden tractors and above to resale anymore. The lawn tractors just will not sell.

Yes, Sir this one is the black deck model, but I did order and replace every single part on the deck three years ago. New belts, blades, pulleys..the works. This Kohler engine is a gem..hard worker, no problems at all with regular maintenance. If I can't get $400 for it, I'll just find an excuse to keep it. Maybe I'll volunteer to mow the lot by the church :)

We sold our black deck STX38(94 - 95?) several years ago for $500 CAD. For sale prices seem to range from $500 to $1000 up in Canada.

They were a decent little machine. Engine & hydrostat. drive were completely trouble free over the years. The deck was on the flimsy side though.

Using a Z535M now & the difference is night and day.....LOL
