457 silage special mega wide

Hi Guys. I was wondering if you could help me. My boss has a 457 silage special round baler with a mega wide pickup purchased in about 2007. He had some broken pickup teeth and asked me to replace them. I ordered the teeth and the local dealer got me part number FH304576. When I went to install them the angle of the teeth were off by about 15 to 20 degrees.(when rotated to the front of the pickup, they are sloped to dump the hay out forward, rather than sitting level) I looked online and decided I had the mega wide but not the mega pickup so went back in and they showed me part number E79475 but it also had the same angle as FH304576.

If you hold FH304576 on a desk by the clamping loop the teeth stick up at about 85 degrees, with the originals it is about 65 degrees. The originals are a round wire about 1/4" in diameter, coil outer diameter is about 1 3/4", overall length about 7", overall width about 3"

Did Deere decide to change the angle of its teeth, or do I simply have the wrong part numbers? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Alf.

My research of JD 457 parts catalog reveals that tooth FH304576 fits both Mega & Mega Wide pickup attachments. Are you sure teeth mounting angle irons are rotating correctly IE no cam brgs/tracks are faulty?

Not sure if you're saying they are bent more or less, but i expect that in 10 years the teeth that came on the baler are sprung some from use. The new ones may well be the same as the originals were when they were new.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Willow Lane yes, I expect the old ones may have bent down over the years, but the new ones are bent down more than the old ones. (The mounting angle is different)

Tx Jim, on the John Deere parts site, on the regular pickup, the teeth bolt to angle iron. On the Mega pickup the angle iron is reinforced with a square tube on the bolt side of the angle iron. On mine (see pictures) the angle iron is reinforced on the side opposite the bolt holes. So I don't know what it is, other than Mega wide

I noticed the reinforcement on angle when I viewed the 457 parts catalog. Dig you compare the new teeth to the spec's I listed?

If it was my baler I'd probably just replace broken teeth then go to field & bale hay.
