2240 overheating

My elderly (10,000 hours) JD 2240 started overheating when tedding for several hours. I have addressed this with radiator/coolant flush, new coolant new thermostat, cleaned radiator of dandelion seeds, new radiator cap. No obvious leaks no white smoke no oil in coolant. Not a lot of pressure in system when tractor is hot and sometimes I hear a slight psst sound which varies with RPM, but can't locate origen. Problem persists. What else could this be? What to try next?

new fan belt , new alternator pulley , new water pump and check alignment while they are under tension . Belt groove could also be worn in the crank pulley and also require replacement .

Sorry, should have mentioned that the belts are good, and water pump bearing tight, makes no sound

Run the tractor with the radiator cap off and when it warms up look and see it you have good circulation in the radiator. If there is not good circulation then I would say the water pump impeller is shot.

Also look for bubbles. A blown head gasket can cause overheating too.

Also you did not say how hard you have to be working it to overheat??? If not hard I would lean towards a head gasket but you can usually see bubbles in the radiator.

A plastic impeller was used randomly on those style engines ,,the fins would break off and the water will not circulate,,this is a strong possibility on yours..
