So last year I tried to save some money and bought a new Vermeer 6640 rancher. It has been nothing but trouble from the start. Plugging, not wrapping, or wrapping the rollers, etc. I have spent hours and hours working in this machine instead of baling hay all last season and the beginning of this one. I got fed up with the inability of Vermeer to fix it and told them to come and get it.
Went to the John Deere dealer and said I need a baler fast, good weather beckons...they delivered a new 460M Silage baler. Just baled 162 flawless bales just easy as can be. Got off the tractor once at the beginning to check on the netwrap, I hadnt loaded it right, no fault of the baler. After that it just cranked out beautiful, even, perfect looking bales that look just like the brochure. What a pleasure to bale hay without holding your breath on every wrap cycle and getting off the tractor every few bales. It just works.

Dont know whats going to happen with Vermeer. They still think they can fix it. They dont want to buy it back but this thing is a lemon. Some friends have had pretty good luck with their Vermeers so I know they can make a good baler but that just proves all the more that I got a lemon. I just couldnt take the lost productivity anymore, at some point enough is enough. Lost some opportunities last year and I was actually dreading hay work which is usually my favorite time of year. Now it is again.
